As a Father......."Fight for your family"
I hear that alot...." fight for your family"......." I'd die for my family" we all say alot of things that sound good. We all have those thoughts....of what we would do if something terrible happened. We have the vengeful thoughts...the payback we would give if someone violated our family.
Have you ever thought of your own violations?
Have you ever thought of the terrible things being done by you ?
I mean......do you realize evrything you do is a seed for continuation. No one watching dad would even imagine that he wasn't thinking. That he hadn't thought of the impact of his actions.
Being a father is very hard ! Being a father is sacrificial ! It means living as a navigating example. Your life is to be the compass.....for your legacy to follow.
I didn't know that...I didn't even think of it. My father left when I was 8 and only came back in and out of our lives as he saw convenient. I didn't see a life I wanted to follow. I saw a life I swore I would never be like.
The realization that I didn't know came to me when I was about 24. I went to a big event and heard a man speak about having a legacy. About choosing that legacy and then living my life as if every day was a chance to sow seeds for the legacy or weeds to choke it out.
It was this event that showed me a glimpse of a dream and the void of my knowledge to make it happen. I will never forget that weekend.....I am so glad I went.
I began to seek advice and knowledge. I would attend seminars on being a better man, on shaping a strong life. I attended financial seminars and purchased tapes to learn. With each attendance and with each day of listening I grew stronger. I grew more confident.
I was totally committed to blazing a trail for my children to follow. ( I wasn't even dating anyone....) I was scared of blowing it with my children like my dad did.....and his dad before. I had thoughts of what if I was cursed. I had the thoughts , but I kept moving forward. I figured if I didn't give up..I would prevail. (I was right)
More than anything...my children would need to see determination...faith...to live life . That any person could choose to keep fighting. I began to see clearly that my life would be the evidence of what life could be. I was 33 when I had my first child....I now have 4 boys...and am 43.
I just had to determine how I wanted to finish and what would be important to me.
The finish would keep me moving and provide boundaries ( I just had to keep my eye on it ). The things I decided to make important..would shape my life......determine the quality of the journey.
Living on Purpose is a battle....one day at a time. Its a series of decisions stacked on top of decisions......one day at a time. Its having daily habits that shape your charachter and create a pattern. Time with is time like.....where and who you spend your time is what you will be like.
So decide ! What is my life going to be about and how am I going to show this? Take the time to seek answers and write a life plan. Seek mentors .
Write 5-6 habits that will produce the traits you desire...remember..goals dont produce goals....habits do.
Keep the goal...the finish in mind....and write your key habits.....nightly. Then when you awake...just start moving...checking off the list. Just do it !
Begin to be aware of what you have always done......watch tv.....hang out.....play videos......surf the net....party.....
Now substitute them with a better seed. What could you do this evening that is a better seed toward your finish....other than tv? Keep asking these questions......The man you want to become is hidden in great habits.
Fight this fight ! A great habit sown is much harder than a beer and a video. But it is the only way to a great finish. decide you like being different.....decide you love doing what only the best will do. Set a whole new standard for people with your last name !
